WHAT Diane Peters TrioWHERE Bennetts Lane, cityWHEN Tomorrow, 9.30pmCOST $15/$12, bennettslane.comCONCERT harp and jazz might sound like an incongruous musical pairing, but Diane Peters (pictured) has made a name for herself by pushing far beyond the classical conventions of her chosen instrument. The composer/harpist was well established on Melbourne's jazz and new music scene (particularly with her own ensemble, Archaeopteryx) before she took another leap into the unknown and moved to Verona, Italy, in 2004. Since then, she has applied her unique musical concepts €” which include the use of wordless vocals €” to various jazz and improvised music settings. She has developed an especially close creative rapport with Italian jazz viola player Maria Vicentini. Their evocative repertoire revolves around Peters' original music, which can be both beautifully subtle and rhythmically dynamic. Peters is currently in Australia on a brief tour and will form a trio at Bennetts Lane tomorrow night with Vicentini and Melbourne bassist Tamara Murphy.
